Machu Picchu is known as the "Lost City" of the Inca Empire. "Machu Picchu" means "ancient mountain top" in Inca. The ancient city is 2,280 meters above sea level, with cliffs about 600 meters high on both sides, and under the cliffs is the Urubamba River that runs day and night. Because of its holy, mysterious, and pious atmosphere, Machu Picchu is included in the list of the top 10 nostalgic sacred places in the world.

Climate
Peru is located entirely in the tropics but features desert and mountain climates as well as tropical rainforests. Elevations above sea level in the country range from −37 to 6,778 m and precipitation ranges from less than 20 mm annually to more than 8,000 mm.

Travel tips
Pay attention to visas for self-guided tour in Peru: Travel to Peru with a SAR passport does not require a visa, but as there is currently no direct flight from Hong Kong to Peru. People usually transit from the US, so remember to hold a valid US visa.
Cusco is about 3,400 meters above sea level. Some people may experience a slight altitude sickness. It is advisable to slow down in the local area and not to make the trip too fast. The altitude of Machu Picchu drops to 2,400 meters, and there are very few altitude sickness. Tourists need to hike in Sky City and light clothings is recommended. .
Beware of pickpockets in crowded places or on public transportation. Put some small money in a separate pocket so that when you pay the bill, you don’t need to show the entire wallet.
